3 Home Decor Trends That Are Officially Over
As we leap into the New Year, we’ve been busy taking stock of the top new styles the manufacturers are showing and what’s definitely on the way out… So if you’re planning a remodel this year, here’s some advice will help you make choices that won’t look immediately dated.
In my opinion, there are three things you should avoid if you want your home to look stylish:
It’s been at least 10 years since I’ve recommended granite countertops to a client. Time to put this one to rest because there are so many other options, like marble, quartz, and even butcher block wood treatments that are much more interesting to see every day in your kitchen. Granite is durable, I’ll give it that, but it lacks the beauty of marble or the sleekness of quartz.
Bamboo flooring skyrocketed in popularity years ago because it’s an eco-friendly alternative to other common flooring materials. But honestly, most designers are tired of the trend. If you’re thinking about redoing the floors in, consider another type of wood or even try something fun like terrazzo – See, every trend comes back eventually!
While Edison bulbs and pendant lights have been trending for a while, it’s already faded out now. I’m a lover of all things vintage and appreciate a nod to the past, but it just became too overly saturated. To keep your lighting from looking outdated, choose options with shades. And if you’re planning a remodel, skip the exposed track lighting in favor of recessed lighting.
